BENEFIT PERFORMANCE.

(To the Editor of the Westport Times.) Sir —As it is rumored that the benefit given to Mr Crawford by the members of the Social Entertainment, was merely a private scheme of two individuals, who had pre-arranged the performance, paying Mr Crawford, a certain sum for the house in a speculative point of view; I think Sir, that such conduct is most condemnable, as it is calculated to mislead the public, and is also a betrayal of confidence on the part of Mr Crawford and his friends. Trusting that such may not have been the case. I am, Tours etc., Query. [Mr Crawford or the members of the Social Entertainment who took part in the performance will no doubt, if asked, give a satisfactory explanation.—Ed- W.T.]
