LYELL.
(from: our owx corresi'on'den't.) Things in this district are steadilv improving. The Little Wonder is getting out stone much richer than anything yet brought to grass ; in fact the drive is a perfect jeweller's shop, and their next crushiug will be something astonishing. The Alpine Company have cleared away their slip and exposed the big reef from which I have seen some excellent specimens, coarse gold sticking out like blow-flies on aa ancient leg of mutton. The machinery is at work, and we shall shortly hear the returns. The Excelsior Company's tramway will shortly be completed," They arcalso exposing some excellent ston^. The Alpine Company intend increasing the number of shares, and are m,iking arrangements for the erection of additional stampers, increasing the number to twenty-five. The news of the golden discovery in the Aloine big reef, has attracted miuy visitors from Eeeftou, Messrs Mace, Trenriery, Caples, and many others have been here, and opened their eyes with astonishment at the golden ore we could show them. The stone exceeds in richness anything before discovered on the Coast.
