TOADYISM.

(To the Editor of the Westport Times.) By your permission a well-known dividual ventilated his opinion on [o'itical affairs, in the columns of the 'Westport Times' on Friday last, while fully appreciating the value of f'Open Column" wherein opinions of every shade and hue may be freely fecttssed, I take the liberty of expressing an opinion, shared by a great "■rober who read the effusion referred t', that it was a plaiu and palpable specimen of mean, unblushing, toadyWi, mendacious in every line, utterly Wen in all its points and bearings ; *fitten by a hungry billet hunter, not his houest thoughts, but as 'faint attempt to ingratiate himself *ith those from whom ho expects or wpes to receive favors. I wonder how many copies of the paner containing his letter he will contrive to send to his particular Wends in office. I wonder if by it's P'blication he calculates to aid the success of his sudden journey to Welllnßton. I wonder again by what tudden perversion of good sense the '"dividual I refer to rashly ventured Wush into print, thus re-awakening "line public mind recollections of liis Past career, so little in his own favor. i wonder once more whether it would " e »u inexpiable crime to chase such a >> individual and his associates Irom [( J the earth they cumber into the sea, ""ere as providing food for sharks H might fraternally fulfil their mission.
