The overland telegraph line was to be completed on the 22nd, and through communication established for 2000 miles from Adelaide to Port Darwin. The English cable is still interrupted, and tho operations of the steamer Investigator are retardednear Java owing to the monsoon. Tha Government have under con-, sideration the propriety of subsidising telegraphic communication from Europe to the Victorian Press. A telegraph station has been opened at Barrow's Creek, 1200 miles from Adelaide. A bill has been introduced into the council by the Victorian Government for the suppression of gaming and betting houses. The Mining on Private Property Bill has nearly passed the Committee of Assembly. A horrible murder has been committed in a lane off Little Bourke street. A woman named Margaret O'Donoghue killed another named O'Rrmrke, and concealed the body for a whole day. The Admiralty has bought a small schooner at Sydney, the first of a fleet for the suppression of the slave trade. She will be manned from the Squadron. Tho Hero has been released from quarantine. Captain Armstrong has been committed for murder, and tho remainder of the crew of the Carl for felonious assault.
The steamer Saxonia was success, fully raised.
Snow has fallen near Sydney, and also in Victoria.
The A.S.N. Company called a special meeting of the shareholders to co isider the advisability of starting a California line.
