MORE PROVINCIAL NFGLECT.
(To the Editor of the Westport Times.) Sib, —Another addition has to be made to the list of deaths by drowning up here, whereby two of our residents met an untimely death at the Lyell junction of the Buller, before the gaze of the entire township ; and not the slightest assistance could bo rendered, through the want of a boat. Does not the Provincial Engineer—whose word is law, in a sense, to the Nelson Government—think it his duty to make it imperative where he grants a free license, and the right of ferry toll, to a punt proprietor, to have a boat in case of emergency ? The loss of two lives wiil perhaps be considered too trifling an object, when so many lives have been sacrificed, uncared for; but as the punt happens to be placed in about the worst part of the river, both for the safety of passengers, and the safety of the punt itself, when an accident happens to a punt load of passengers, and no boat is available to render assistance, it will then probably be enquired into.—l am, &c, A bPECTATOB. Lyell, August 22, 1872.
