The want, of wharfage accommodation at Westport bus been severely felt, dining the pi-psent week. The barque Alma occupying i ,io apology fur a wharf at Cobden street, the steamers Wallace and Charles Edward have been compelled to discharge cargo from temporary gangways leading olf the paddle boxes to the rivci bank, at the end of Bright street, fhe goods being pitched into the mud for want of a better resting place. Messrs N. Edwards and O). might help the Westport public by rousing up the Nelson authorities to a proper Revise of their duty, in cither providing -a public wharf, or offering greater inducement to private parties to supply the ai -eded aeconim idatioii. The Charles Edward proceeded south last •evening, having .transhipped passengers and •cargo from the Wallace. The Murray from sr«.-t.h will come in at this morning's tide, and ■will leave in company with the Wallace for Nelson. The Kennedy, having unde gone a thorough overhaul, will take up her running again on Monday next. The following notice appears in the General Government 'Gazette,'of the 31st instant, received from the Harbor Master at Akaroa : —" During a late gale a single pinnacle rock was discovered half a mile south by west from edge of outlviiijj reef at foot of South Head, Akaroa harbor; no kelp near. Discoverer long resident on South Head, and a reliable authority. He considers rock to have about three fathoms over it at high water. Hearing are from general knowledge and not by compass."
