The useful little steamer Wallace, whiek has recently been added to Mo-srs N. Edwards mid Co.'s Anchor Line ot" Steam Packets, 1 a proved herself to be an excellent sea boat, having crossed the West coast bars in capital style. She steams well, and when ■cleaned and painted is expected to fully maintain her reputation as a nine-knot steamer. She arrived here yesterday morning after a good run down from Nelson, bringing a full cargo and complement of passengers, as also a number of sheep and swine for the south. She will leave for Grey mouth this afternoon. During a soyore gale on the night of the 23rd the Tararua, from Dunedin to Melbourne, in avoiding collision with the Rangatira, off the Heads, caused her stern post to come in contact with the bank, and got her rudder damaged. She was towed back to port by the Alhambra with, great difficulty. She is new un<Se going repairs at Port ', •Chalmers.
