(fee geeville's telegeam company.) WELLINGTON. Government Buildings, July 25, 5 p.m. Mr Collins moved a reduction of gold duty to two shillings per ounce. T. L. Shepherd, of Otago, supported the bill. Mr Vogel said reducing the gold duty would bo reducing still lower the provinces who administer the Goldfields. He moved an amendment to refer the resolution to a Goldfields Committee. M'Glashan and Harrison supported the amendment. Mervyn, of Otago, suggested the withdrawal of amendment. Fox now speaking. It is rumored that in order to conciliate the Otago members, the Government intend making a short session, and calling another shortly at Dunedin. The Otago members are holding a caucus on the subject. In the House, notice has been given of the introduction of a bill to abolish imprisonment for debt; also a motion that the Government be requested to table the measure promised last session, to define the functions of Provincial institutions. The bill, combining the whole of the West Coast, Westland and the Nelson South-wast Goldfields, in ono Province will be introduced next week. AUCKLAND. Shoedy, the mining manager of the Green Harp claim, has been committed for trial. CHKISTCIIUECH. July 24. Stringent precautions are being taken to prevent the introduction of smali-pox. Quarantine regulations are strictly enforced, and a great many persons are being vaccinated.
