The Melbourne 'Argus' report:—The Kausa, just arrived from Mauritius, brings dates to 22nd March. The Southern Cross and St Albyns, which had just reached there, were expected to return to Sydney. The Athona, 450 tons, had been chattered at 45s to load for Sydney, and the Condor is supposed to have been taken up for Melbourne, though some uncertainty exists in regard to this latter. Prices were dear owing to the scarcity of supplies. White crystals and the fin r descriptions of yellow sugars were expected to maintain values, moi-e especially as the quantity remaining for sale was very limited. Assortments to make up a cargo were very hard to get. Four thousand bags fine white crystals had been bought for Australia at 7.25 dols, and finest whites were afterwards quoted over that figure.
