A select committeo to enquire into the condition of West port, and to take into consideration the amount due in equity to freeholders losing land, has been appointed on motion of Mr Beid. f A grant of seventy-five pounds to Westport Fire Brigade has been passed on motion of Mr O'Conor, and same sum to Charleston on the motion of Mr Donne. A subsidy for steam boat for Westport and coasting purposes, proposed by Mr O'Conor has been negatived. Kynnersly made speech on Tuesday, showing that goldfields contribute this year seven thousand pounds more than the expenditure thereon, and nearly same last year. The Treasurer disputes his calculation, contending that the goldfields should pay three-fourths cost of government.
