The s.s. Kennedy arrived here on Saturday morning last, after a smart run of twenty hours from Nelson. She brought a very heavy cargo of general merchandise for Westport, and also another portion of the telegraph poles intended for erection on the Keefton line. Outside the bar she took in tow the schooner Maid of Erin, from Melbourno, jusc cutting out the Eesult, which had put on all steam to first reach the prize. Tho Kennedy reports that tho Charles Edward was rapidly filling up for this port and Greymouth, The schooner Maid of Erin, Capt. Cains, bringing a full cargo from Melbourne, arrived in the Buller roadstead at two o'clock on Saturday morning, and, as stated above, was towed in by the Kennedy on the same morning's tide. She left Melbourne on the 13th inst., and for the first week experienced strong southerly winds, with heavy head sea. For the remainder of tho passage, and until reaching the Coast, she had light easterly winds. Captain Cairns reports that the schooner Florence, with a cargo for this port and Wanganui, was to leave Melbourne on tho dayafter tho Maid of Erin sailed.
