The commercial wool sales opened at Lon--don on February 8, at an advance of 2Jd to ■3£ d on all descriptions above last series; in Bpecial instances that rise was exceeded; £O,OOO bales passed the hammer. Manufacturers stocked light lately. Competition less spirited. For tallow there was a limited demand in consequence of large home meltings ; mutton 3s lower, and beef 2s 6d; sales 3600, stocks 9300. Oils, Syduey, thirl y-three to thirtybeven ; sperm fifty-six. Good demand for hides at a slight advance. Leather firm. Horns and bones in good request at extreme rates. New Zealand hemp eagerly bought; supplies inadequate. The panic on the Stock Exchange caused by Alabama complications has passed away ; still the markets are very sensitive. Little business doing in Consuls, which are steady at 92£. Bunk rate 3 per cent. Discount easier. The English and Scottish Bank and the Now Zealand Loan Mercantile Agency have declared dividends of 12i per cent. Australian securities firai. New Zealand Consolidated, fiyps, 102; ditto, sixes, 113.
