(from our own correspondents.) WELLINGTON. April 12. The construction of the telegraph line from Grreymouth to Rpefton is ordered to be proceeded with forthwith. April 13. Knox, charged with intended highway robbery at Otaki, Napier, has been committed. Creighton, an alleged accomplice, turned Queen's evidence. AUCKLAND. April 9. The trial of Cyrus Haley for an attempt to murder young Eussell has commenced. Haley defended himself, and challenged twelve jurors. He would have challenged more, but the Judge interfered. The Crown challenged three. The Crown Prosecutor intimated that he would produce additional evidence against the accused. The Nevada's mails have not yet been forwarded south. They are waiting the arrival of the s.s. Wellington, which will be despatched immediately on arrival. April 10. Haley's cases were continued yesterday. The prisoner cross-examined the witnesses at length.
April 12. Haley addressed the jury, and contended that the threatening letters were an evident hoax. He made dangerous admissions. The Judge is now summing up. Caledonians, £2O; Thames, £5 7s.
