(fhom ouu own correspondents.) BLUFF. April 3. The steamer Albion arrived at the Bluff to-day. She left Melbourne on the 28th ult. Passenger List.—Mesdames Flanagan and Kendall, Miss Flanagan, Messrs Israel, Kendall, Curran, Coventry, Naylor, Haworth, Koyet, Mr and Mrs Duthie. For Lyttelton : Mrs Prince and Mr Bell. For Wellington : —Mrs Vogel, two children and servant, Miss Vogel, Miss Clayton, Messrs Tyler, O'Shea, Moss, Gray, Anderson, Miss Harvey, Mrs Oakley, Mr and Mrs Quinn. WANGANUI. April 3. It may be remembered that a man and wife threw themselves off the bridge at Wanganui. The body of the woman has been found near the bridge apparently strangled. Robert Rogers who was arrested yesterday in a state of delirium tremens, hung himself in Turakina gaol this morning, with a strip of blanket. When cut down he was not quite dead, but shortly after expired. He leaves a wife and family in Castlemaine, Victoria. WELLINGTON. April 3. Information has been received of an organised band of highwaymen at Otaki, who had prepared arms, &c. One of the party divulged the secret. Home respectable residents are said to be implicated. April 4. The police are vigorously prosecuting enquiries respecting alleged existence of organised band, who had planned to rob and murder several leading settlers.
MELBOURNE. March 28. The banquet given to Ministers at Castlemaine was a great success. Mr Vogel was a guest on the occasion. The Mayor gave a dejeimer to the officers of the Russian corvette Izambrond. Mr Vogel was a guest. His speech foreshadowed the repeal by the Imperial Government of clauses in the Australian Constitution Act, preventing the colonies from making special tariff arrangements with one another. Mr Vogel has been visiting Geelong, Ballarat. and other places. The case of Joske versus Cassius has terminated in a verdict for the plaintiff for £333. The coffer dam of the Alfred Victoria dock burst in high tide. Miller's rope works have been destroyed by fire. Loss estimated at £12,000, with only £-1000 insured. Markets generally are quiet. Flour, £l2 10s to £l2 15s. Wheat, 5s sd. Oats, 3s to 3s 3d. Sugars commanding fair rates. Tookey's improving ; wanted at £8 ; offered at £9 10s. Sailed—Great Britain and Northumberland, for England.
SYDNEY. More damaging developments against Nicholls and Lester in reference to the Paramatta murders. It is rumored that Lester has confessed. At the Coroner's inquest after finding the body, Walker's evidence showed guilt almost conclusive against them. Wool sales—Flecees, 18 g- to 21|second, 16 to 22. Arrived—John Knox, Magellan ; Cloud, from Lyttelton. Sailed—Australia, for Auckland ; Amateur, for Lyttelton. NEWCASTLE. Sailed—Amherst, for Lyttelton ; Reouor, for Dunedin. ADELAIDE.
