AID TO CHICAGO.
The Chicago Relief and Aid Society have prepared an elaborate report showing the amount of contributions in money received from all quarters in aid of the sufferers by fire, specifying the States, counties and towns, with amounts from each. The grand total is nearly three and a quarter millions in cash, and does not include the Alexander Steward fund from New York, nor the munificent sums raised by the Chamber of Commerce of that city, nor the large sums, over one hundred thousand dollars each, donated by the cities of Cincinnati and St. Louis, and distributed through their own agencies. credited with 159,363,39 dollars, of which amount San Francisco gave 120,756,88 dollars, Sacramento 21,117-50 dollars, and Oaklands 11,215 dollars. Contributions from the State of New York, exclusive of items heretofore mentioned, foot up 624,571 dollars. Massachusetts gave 335,580 dollars, Oregon 18,000 dollars, Colorado, 12,000 dollars, Utah, 15,000 dollars. England 356.420 dollars, Canada, 148,611 dollars. Scotland 60,000 dollars. Ireland 68,000 dollars. France 570,000 dollars, Germany £64,000. In addition to many contributions, gifts of food, clothing, &c, have been received from hundreds of cities, towns, and villages all over the Union, and from Canada, England and Berlin, Prussia, amounting in value to many thousand dollars. Sacramento, Stockton, and Georgetown have each made liberal donations of this kind. At date of report (January 6), there were 9595 families receiving general relief, such as fuel, food, and clothing. Of these, 982 are Americans, 3311 being Irish, 3573 Germaus; balance divided among almost every nationality or race on the face of the earth.
