The Westport Tiems AND CHARLESTON ARGUS. In the cause of Truth and Justice we strive. TUESDAY MARCH 26, 1872.

In a late Gazette the receipts and expenditure for the quarter ended September 30, 1871, are published. We give a short summary in round numbers.

The receipts, with the Cousolidated Fund, amounted to £232,308, which with £13,417 outstanding imprests unaccounted for, and £70,071 balances in hand at the commencement of the quarter, makes a total debit of £315,886. The expenditure under tire same head was £198,557, [caving balances in hand amounting to £59,221, and outstanding imprests of £58,108. On the Public Works account the receipts were £831,312, to which must be added £4504 of balance in hand and £8938 represented by unaccounted imprests. The expenditure was £197,870; imprests unaccounted for, £619,731, and a balance of £152 was left at the end of the quarter. Under the head of Special Fund, the receipts were £380,036, which with a balance in hand at the commencement of the quarter of £12,495, and imprests unaccounted for, made a total of £416,394. The expenditure on this branch'of account wa5£245,747 . imprests unaccounted for, £162,981,

and .£7665 remained in hand at the eud of the quarter,

Under the head of Land Fund the receipts were £87,890, and a Balance from the preceding •quarter of £1837 but' there was a deduction to be made of a credit on the unaccounted imprests of £I7S9, making the total £87,939. The expenditure on the Land Fund account was £59,724, a balance of £4097 'was in hand, and credit imprests amounting to £5883 remained outstanding.

Under the head Trust Fund the receipts amounted to £10,289, to which has to be added a balance in hand of £G3,9G3, and deducting a credit item of imprest unaccounted for of £29, made tie total £104,223. The expenditure was £28,641, a balance of £87,730 remained at the end of the term, and credit imprests not accounted for had been issued to the amount of £12,147. The total actual Receipts from all sources for the quarter amounted to £1,574,926, and the actual Expenditure during the same period to £760,539.

The imprests unaccounted for were on the following accounts : —lmperial Government £220, Provinces in separate account £BO7S, Bay of Islands Settlement Act accounts £7440, A uckland Reserves Act account£2lol, Paymaster-General £32,746, Miscellaneous Advances £52,205, and £720,000 in deposit at Bank of New Zealand, London, on account of the Loan Agents.
