LONDON POPULATION.

The population of London is nearly three times as large as that of the Papal States, and nearly three times as much as the whole population of Norway; it exceeds by 300)000 the 'whole population of Portugal, by 1,800,000 that of Switzerland, bv 200,000 that of Rouroania. It about equals that of Canada, exceeding it by 80,000 only, surpasses that of the Netherlands by more than half a milium. These include independent states stiong and stable monarchies; and London is btit a city ; still she is a .Niagara of cities. The roar of her population is heard afar off; and, as one man is as good as another in these days, she is, at the lowest estimate, even by the rule of counting heads, tie most important place in the world. —" St James's Magazine."
