The Westport Times AND CHARLESTON ARGUS. In the cause of Truth and Justice we strive. TUESDAY, MARCH 12, 1872

Yestebdat we were congratulating our renders on the great increase of trade as evidenced by the application to the proper authorities for the conconstruction of new wharves. To-day we can repeat those congratulations with increased confidence, by the arrival last night •of the paddle steamer Result, intended for the coasting trade from this port. We sincerely hope that the dangerous practice of sending goods in small boats from the steamers on their passage down will be superseded, by the opportune arrival of the smart steamer Result. This steamer will be able to supply all things needful at the Anatori, Big River, Karamea, and West Wanganui and other places north, as well as Charleston and Brighton south. We give the account of her passage from Auckland to Westport, which the captain of the Result supplied to the harbor master of Westport, Captain Leech, who has kindly handed it to us for publication:—

" The p.s. Besult left Auckland at 5 a.m. on Sunday, the 3rd inst., calling at the Bay of Islands next day; remained there 30 hours. On the sth she left the Bay at 3 a m. The North Cape was rounded on the 6th at 8 p.m., with a fresh easterly wind, which continued for two days, then shifted to the

north-east, and blew fresh ; lost foresail during the breeze. On Sunday, 10th inst, the wind shifted to the south-west. Sighted Mount Rochfort on (he -11 th, about 10 a.m., and arrived at Vestport thesame night at 11 p.m. Most*of the passege was made- uuder canvas, the vessel having only been some thirty hours under steam all the way down." By the above it will be perceived that we are fully justified in'oiir sanguine expectations that the Result will fulfil fell the duties required of her.

The Result is still anchored in the lagoon, and we have been unable to visit her to-day. To-morrow we will endeavor to give a description of her.
