A HEROINE (?) OF THE COMMUNE.
Mdlle. Louise has just been tried by a Versailles court-martial. This woman is possessed of high attain* inents. In peaceful times the followed the pursuit of a schoolmistress, and has had as many as sixty pupils, be. longing to good families under her care. She is thirty-five years of age, and is said to be very handsome. She was indicted as an accomplice in acts of the Commune, for having pers ,nally fought in uniform, and for having written articles in the "Cri du Peuple," inciting the populace to the assassination of Grenerals Clement, Thomas, and Lecomte. Mdlle Louise seems to have been a regular enthusiast in her way, for while she gloried in having taken part in al] most every Council of the Commune, she declared the Commune was honest and innocent, and had no thought of murder or arson ! She meant two lives to be sacrificed—those of M. Thiers and her own. The Court sentenced her to confinement for life in a fortress.
