ADDISON'S.
(from a correspondent.)
An interesting meeting took place at Addison's on Monday evening being the occasion of the consecration, by the Lord Bishop of Nelson, of a building lately purchased for divine worship; there was a good attendance. After reading the Consecration Service, assisted by the liev. Mr Soutar, the Bishop delivered an address, taking for his text the interesting narrative of Jacob's dream; dwelling, especially, upon that part where Jacob, on awaking, exclaims, " This is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven." After the sermon Mr E. Lush, who had acted as secretary to the Building Committee, made a statement explaining the history of the purchase, which showed that about twelve mouths ago the Eev. Mr Soutar commenced visiting Addison's, and preaching once a month ; that for some time the Church was indebted to the kindness of Mr P. M'Enroe for the use of of a place for worship ; that Mr Soutar urged upon his hearers the necessity of procuring a place of their own, which resulted in purchasing the building that had that evening been consecrated ; and that the handsome tabic and desk cover with cushion had been provided gratuitously by the ladies of the congregation. He thanked the Bishop for his visit to Addison's, and trusted that it would be productive of great good to that little corner of his fold.
_ The Treasurer, Mr J. Gr. Dudgeon, then gave a financial statement to the effect that the buildmg had been paid lor and there was a small balance iu hand, but there were still some small accounts unsettled which would necessitate a further collection. The Bishop congratulated the congregation on the success of their efforts, and on their possession of so complete a place of worship, and the Jiev. Mr youtar expressed himself highly satisfied with the result of his labors in connection with Addison's, and with the kindness he had experienced not only from his own people but from those of other denominations ; and, in conclusion, moved " That the thauks of this congregation are due and be conveyed to Mr M'Euroe for his kindness iu lending the building in which it had hitherto met." This resolution was seconded by Mr J. G. Dudgeon and carried unanimously.
