Coromandel is overrun with prospectors, and it is believed that nearly every "likely spot" has been tried. At a native meeting lately held at Kirikiri, Auckland, a quantity of beer, amounting to a gallon and a-half for every man, woman, and child present, was drunk. 15,000 flounders and lt'oo stingarees were also provided, and " ample justice was done to them." A gentleman who recently visited Mount Lia informs the " Tuapeka Times " that, in com-equence of the drought, a large number of miners have been compelled to take their departure from that district. If the ensuing winter should be frosty, it is feared that the distiict will be irretrievably ruined. Joshua Storey, a seaman of the cutter Lapwing, lying alongside the Auckland wharf, was knocked overboard and drowned. Deceased belonged to the Blackstone Ranges, O tago. A seaman of the Caduceus, in Auckland harbor, fell from the deck-house, a height of seven feet, and was killed.
