The Westport Times. AND CHARLESTON ARGUS. In the cause of Truth and Justice we strive. TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 1872.

The Westport Bank of New Zealand shipped, by the steamer Murray, two boxes of gold, containing 16590z 7dwt llgrs, for Hokitika. The Hon Mr Reeves, Minister for Public Works, accompanied by Mr Haughton, Gold Fields Secretary, and Mr Dobson, Provincial Engineer, are expected to arrive in Westport this evening from Reef tot. The steamer Charles Edward left for Nelson (towing out the schooners Northern Light and Io) with Mrs Winstanley and family on their way to Dunedin. We are glad to see that Mr Mackay, of whose accident when in company with Dr Hector and others, we gave an account at the time, was well enough to take his departure for Nelson by the same means. The steamers Kennedy and Murray came in the same day, but made but a short stay, both steaming away early in the evening. Three more of the cargo boats, with a great number of passengers—principally women and children—started for Inangahua this morning. Cargo in abundance is ready to be forwarded. The punt by which the Buller is crossed at the town, has not been used for the last few days, the wire not being place. Several persons, unaware of the circumstances, have been subject to the unnecessary loss of time and temper, waiting for it on the opposite side with their horses. We see by advertisement that the late Resident Magistrate of Nelson, John Sharp, Esq., has joined the firm of "Harley Bros.'' (under which title the business will still be conducted) of the Kent Brewery, Nelson. In the Insolvency Court at Melbourne the Judge refused a certificate to a bankrupt on the ground that his estate had not yielded 7s in the pound after realisation. This was under the new insolvency estate. We' believe that a similar Act has been passed by the New Zealand Parliament.
