The ship England left London on December 7, with a number of Scandinavian emigrants for Wellington. The Dover Castle, with emigrants, sailed for Canterbury from London some time in January. The Great Britain, which sailed from Liverpool on December 17, with emigrants for Melbourne, had to put back in order to avoid the gale in which the steamer Delaware was lost. Canterbury wheat fetched 60s a quarter in the London corn markets. There has been a meeting held in London for the purpose of considering the best means of popularising Australian preserved meats. The Food Preserving Company of London will probably commence operations in New Zealand shortly.
