A BRAVE EMPRESS.
The Emperor and Empress of Brazil, now making a European tour, seem bent on leaving only golden opinions behind them. The Emperor has long been distinguished among reigning princes for his enlightened views and his practical interest in all liberal studies. On his travels he has displayed a lack of ostentation and an intelligent curiosity quite as much at variance with the habit of royal tourists. While in London he frequently astonished the attendants by getting up and roaming about the streets long before breakfast, and now the Empress has added a laurel to her crown such as few monarchs can boast of. "While at Naples, recently, the Imperial party visited the famous Azure Grotto. The sea being rough, the Empress remained outside in a small boat. Suddenly the helmsman, by whose side she was sitting, lost his balance, fell overboard, and would in all probability have been drowned had not the Empress caught him as he sunk, and, by a great exertion, held him up until the arrival of help.
