A GREAT ENTERPRISE.
"While people are talking of a railway to India direct, to accomplish tho passage from Loudon to Calcutta in five days, the Viceroy of Egypt," says the ' Malta Times,' " has actually commenced one of the most gigantic undertakings ever attempted in his territory—that of connecting Upper and Lower Egypt by rail. At tho terminal point of all ancient and modern conquest, where the mighty Persian and .Roman invader found the desert an impassable barrier, the Khedive, assisted by an army of English engineers and navvies, will, unless stopped by the jealousy of the Sultan, drive an iron road and a team of iron horses, not only to tho very confines of Nubia, but into the heart of Africa, opening up new fields for commerce, and perhaps bringing homo Livingstone first-class. Twenty of the engineers for the above undertaking passed through Malta recently ou their way, and will be followed by the remainder of the staff in a short time. When- it is considered that the line commencing at the Second Cataract, is to be GOO miles long, some idea may bo formed ot the amount of labour required to complete the work."
A female " Professor of Great Mysteries " advertises in a city paper that she will " cure disease after recovery is impossible." We know how to cure bacon that is hopelessly dead.
