The Westport Times. AND CHARLESTON ARGUS. In the cause of Truth and Justice we Strive. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1872.
His Honor the Superintendent, accompanied by Mr Inspector Shalcrass, arrived here by the s.s. Kennedy, from Nelson, yesterday afternoon. The Honorable tho Premier left Westport on a visit to the Mount Rochfort Coalfield on Tuesday morning, accompanied by Mr Warden Giles, Mr Dobson, Provincial Engineer, and Mr Brown, private secretary to Mr Fox. The rainy weather yesterday necessitated their return to Westport. Tho cutter Jane sailed on Thursday morning for Havelock, and ketch Blackwall, sailed at the same time for Picton. Tho steamer Waipara arrived from Greymouth on Thursday afternoon and sailed again the same evening for south.
A typographical error in our last issue altered very materially the meaning of tho paragraph referred to. In tendering a remedy for mosquitoes wo stated that carbonic acid effected that object. Of course, the word carbonic should have read carbolic. By tho steamer Charles Edward, which arrived hero on Saturday, four valuable and useful horsos wero received by the Buller Towing Track Company, and a waggon camo to hand yesterday by the steamer Kennedy. The first lot of goods sent through at the reduced rate of .£ls per ton left Westport yesterday in one of the company's hoats. The magnificent boat now building for the Towing Track Company is all but ready for launching and, when all their arrangements are completed, they contemplate a still further and considerable reduction in tho rate of freight.
