The Indian Government have commenced war agaiust the Lushais, a hill tribe in the neighbourhood of Cachar in the presidency of Bengal. These people last year made several raids into the settled districts, and the Government resolved, as soon as the season would permit, to send such a force against them as would teach them a lesson, and put a stop to their predatory excursions. The force sent against them is under the charge of General Bourchier, and was equipped so as to ensure complete success. The whole force was to assemble in Cachar early in November. 700 girls are employed m the cartridge factory at Woolwich Arsenal, and their number will shortly be largely increased
