ROADS IN WESTLAND.
A telegram dated Wellington, December 21, states that, "Estimates have been received by the Government as to the cost of the alternative roads from Marsden to Greymouth as follows -.—Marsden to mouth of Omotumotu, £15,900 ; and if continued into town, £19,650 ; road via Sawyers Creek to within 60 chains of Post-office, £ll,lOO. " The Government have decided first to construct a dray road from town to the mouth of the creek, to connect with a road thence to the Coal Gorge, which Mr Lahma'n has telegraphed to say he has accepted tenders for. " The question of the road to Marsden the Government will not decide upon, chiefly because after completing the roads already contracted for and authorised, there is only about £4OOO available."
