REEFTON.

(from oim own correspondent.) Several scrip have changed hands since my last in the Anderson's Creek Quartz Mining Company, at advanced prices. This claim will be ready for machinery as early as it is pos ible to place it on the ground. The bulk of the preparatory work is completed ; the tunnel is run in between 300 and 400 feet, and the water race constructed to carry 25 heads is nearly finished, and this quantity will, of course, be capable of driving more powerful machinery than is likely to be placed upon the ground for some time. An additional hundred signatures have been obtained to the road petition in this district, making in all about three hundred names that have been attached.

A large portion of the machinery for Mace, Trenery, and Co. has been transported to Black's Point, but the worst part of the road, one mile and a half long, has yet to be traversed before reaching the machine site, which is situated at an elevation of 1000 feet above the river-bed. About a hundred men volunteered their assistance, and succeeded in dragging the boiler a distance up the hill. Shares have changed hands last week in Smith's line of reef. The price has not transpired. Mr Arkell, of Hokitika, has purchased a halt share in No. 1 South, Shiels's, for £l5O, which is considered a very low figure as the claim is thought to be one of the best in the district. The want of a suitable cemetery is much felt. One of the bodies recently interred had to be conveyed to Fern Flat, a distance of six miles.
