London - , October 1. During the current wool sales 36,189 bales have been sold to date. The market opened with an advance ■of one penny to three halfpence per lb on all descriptions. This has been increased to fully 2d •over July rates. The present consumption promises the maintenance of firm rates for the next few months. A further advance in Manilla has materially assisted the demand for flax. Of that fabric 1353 bales realised full rates-, medium, partly cleaned, £24 to £26 10s ; good medium, £29 ; good and fine cleaned, £32 to £33 10.-. In corn since September 11th there has been a decline of 6d to Is per •quarter, owing to millers being fully stocked. The quotations for New Zealand wheat are 625. Large quantities of wheat recently arrived from the colony have been landed in bad condition, and are saleable at 45s only, for cattle food or starch. The cause of the damage is supposed to be bad ■harvesting. In tallow there is a fair competition. Sheep, 33s to 435; beef, 36s to 42. The stock market shows a gradual improvement. The advance in New Zealand securities has been arrested by heavy parcels brought on the market since the bonds had been consolidated. The general tone is however highly satisfactory. New Tobk. Later news confirms the advance in wool. The arrivals were 33,322 tjales, New Zealand, and 84,528 bales,' Australian, The demand is good. Fleeces sold , at Id to Hd per lb higher. At New York there is a dull market for flax. Most of the parcels offered were bought in at £25 to £27 per ton. Only 400 bales of medium to good, were sold at £23 10s to £24.
