THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

(To the Editor of the Westport Time* and Charleston Argus.)

Sib, —I beg through the medium of your columns to thank those gentlemen who "formed the late Education Committee for this district for the prompt and manly manner in which they have acted in the matter of their treatment by the Central' Board, and have to offer a few remarks upon the election of their successors.

I believe a feeling obtains generally that the local Committees have done their utmost to advance the cause of Education in the District under their charge, but unfortunately their endeavours have uniformly been met with such persistent and blind opposition from the Central Board as to totally disgust each committee-man, until things have calminated in the joint resignation of the, members of the lato committee. Now aa I see no better treatment in store for a new committee, why have the farce enacted of electing one ?• Why cast a slur upon the exertions of past committes by accepting nominations for a new one? I sincerely trust our townspeople will show their sense of the affronts offered them by refusing to nominate and elect any persons for a new local committee, and precipitate matters by forcing the question of our Educational requirements into greater prominence before the Central # Board by a further refusal to accept the Superintendent's nomination by reason of their non-election. Tours, &c. Echo. Westport, Oct. 19,1871.
