In reply to Mr Harrison, the Government stated that they purpose extending the operation of the Public Works Acts to the Nelson Goldfields, substituting roads for railways as in the County of Westland. The Government are to introduce a bill reducing the number of members in Provincial Councils to the number returned respectively to the Assembly ; providing also that Superintendents shall sit in Councils. The Grey district is to be dissevered from Westland with the Teremakau ?s the boundary. In compliance with the request of local representatives, local boards are to be provided for the distribution of local revenue on the Nelson Goldfields.
