One-fourth of the purchase money in cash on the fall of the hammer ; the remainder at or before the expiration of three calendar months from the day of sale, to be paid at the Office of the Commissioner of Confiscated Lands, Wanganui. By clause 18 of the Confiscated Lands Regulations, under which the sale is to take place, "in the event of the second payment not being made as aforesaid, the sale shall be void, and the deposit forfeited." The town of Carlyle is situated upon the River Patea, which is about thirty-five miles north-west of Wanganui, and is now a Port of Entry. It is accessible to coasting craft and small steamers, and navigable for vessels drawing six feet for fifteen or twenty miles. Since May, 1870, when the greater part of the town and all but one of the suburban sections were disposed of, Carlyle has greatly increased in -size and importance, and is the centre of a considerable trade with the surrounding districts. The rural land consists of detached sections interspersed amongst these belonging to private persons, for the most part in actual occupation of their properties. Extending as they do over a distance of some twenty-five miles from Carlyle, they differ considerably in value, and have heen priced accordingly. Plans may be inspected at the Office of the Secretary for Crown Lands, Wellington; at the Carlyle Survey Office; and at the Confiscated Lands Office, Wanganui. Regulations for the sale of the lands may be seen in the " New Zealand Gazette" on the Ist June, 1871, and all required information obtained at this office. The s.s. TO LET, With Immediate Possession, "IHE MASONIC HOTEL, Nelson, . lately in the occupation of Mr E. Everett. This old-established house is too well known to need comment, having every requisite usual in a first-class Hotel, including Club Room and Billiard Room fitted up with one of Alcock's best tables and appliances. The business done is highly respectable and satisfactory, the hotel is held at a moderate rental, and to an enterprising man offers an advantage seldom met with. The present holder, being reluctantly compelled to relinquish it in consequence of his business elsewhere requiring his sole attention, is prepared to deal liberally with a customer, and also to afford every information upon application to H. WILKINS.
