Harris, scratch ... ... ... 2 Rankin, 55 yards ... ... ... 3 Five started, but after getting 'over the first hurdle D. Twohill pulled un, leaving the race to Harris, P. Twohill, {Rankin, and Ldng. This "Was a beautiful race, the men running weK,and taking the several 'hurdles in splendid style. P. Twohill and Rankin for ;some distance ran together, -and took the second fence from home simultaneously, when P. Twohill forged forward and took the lead. Harris, putting on steam, passed Rankin, and came in a good second. The H'uf die Eace concluded the programme by the Committee. A friendly match between Mr Harris and Mr Strike then -came off. The novel amusing manner in which Harris was handicapped against his oppenent caused a good deal -of speculation as to the result. Harris was to make, himself up to Strikers height by carrying the difference, which we Mnderstaa&d, was somewhere about 641bs —a goodly weight to run with, and Harris did not seem, very comfortable under the burden. Both gentlemen being at scratch, the pistol was fired, and away went Strike, but Harris did not start. It was generally allowed that Strike started oefore the pistol was fired. As it was a 'friendly contest, and as their merits could not ■"he tested in that manner, Strike

agreed to run the race over again. Both again toed the line, and a good start was effected. When about half the distance, Harris passed Strike, and kept the lead for some time, run. ning well and easily under his load, but when about 30 yards from the finish, Harris began to lose ground; perhaps his weight suddenly got too heavy, and Strike came in the winner.
