It is considered unnecessary to strengthen the outpost at Whahatane, beyond sending five constables from here and five from Opotiki. Captain Simpson just returned from Maketu, reports all quiet.
Te Kooti's commissariat is rnise 1 *" ably defective, and he has to move his camp often to obtain food. It is reported at Waihi that Te Kooti is approaching Tauranga. It is not known which Waihi is referred to. Te Hira Arawa says that there will be fighting shortly.
Natives are working splendidly beyond Botorua.
