That oft 'the said •George Green, the survivor, landing at the wharf at ShOrtland\ the police. took him to the station houSfe, where be walked, assisted by one man on each side of him, in his Wet clothes as "be then t was; that this was done despite the earnest entreaties of his friends that they should be allowed to take him home, and. administer 'Buch comforts and stimulants as Were absolutely necessary in the 'case of the unfortunate man, who had been for ten hours in the water. That Mr Sub-Inspector Bullen replied to the request of Green's friends to take him away at once. "When I have 'done with him you may have him." That Green "was thus kept for three'quarters of &n hour, and that when he was ultimately allowed to go to his 'own %hkre,'hea!r the Caledonialn Hotel, : Sbortland, he had not proper medical •fitteridarice and Hvas not properly looked after. That within two or three houre 'Green began, to sink ;rapidly, ; and he was then 'removed to the Thaiilbs Hospital Vhero he died in a few h(jtfrs. That no inquest was held upon 'the 'body of the said George 'Green, hor was there aby inquiry made 'into the manner df his dea'th.
