THE LAW OF LANDLORD AND TENANT.

The * Daily News" says:—" Alandlord to whom rent is due may seize anything that is in the house, whether it belongs to the tenant or not. One of the anxieties of Working men arises out of this unjust arrangement. They may pay. the rent of their lodgings punctually enough, but if, the person of whom they take the lodgings does not pay his rent, they may be turned out into the streets, without an hour's notice, and; their goods and chattels be all swept off to the broker's. It is not only working men who are subject to this oppression. An Alderman of London was changing his residence, and sent some Of his furniture to be warehoused meanwhile.,. Hfe paid.rent for the warehousing, but the warehouseman failed to pay his rent, and the landlord came in and sold the Alderman's goods. A lady and gentleman from a midland county came to London, and took.lodgings in Belgravia. They paid a high rent for them, and paid it punctually. But the tenant of the house in which they lodged was a butler out of place. He failed to pay his rent, and the lady gentleman had all their travelling equipage and articles of value seized and sold fon the rent thus due. Of course, in all these cases the law gives thb Injured person a remedy; but it is

a remedy, not against the man who bad seized the goods but pgainst the person for whose debt they were seized. The remedy is, of course, useless, Such is the law under which all lodgers are put in England, and .which in, the Lodgers' Goods Protection, ..'-Bill, Messrs.. Sheridan, Holmes, Brogdeh, and W. M. Torrens seek to alter."
