WESTPORT HOSPITAL.

The monthly meeting of the Hospital Committee took place at the Court House, Westport, on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs Fisher (chairman), Powell, Muuson, Graves, Rowlands, Gilmer, Simpson, Struthers, Whyte, and Humphrey. Previous minutes were read and confirmed. A letter from Mr J. K. Sloan, Lyell, was received, enclosing cheque for £-i 14s Gd, the amount of subscriptions received in that district. Petty accounts, amounting to £lO, were passed for payment. The Visiting Committee reported favourably of the institution. The Medical Officer reported that there were 9 in-patients on July 1 ; admitted, 3 ; discharged, 2 ; remaining in hospital, 10; and out-patients, 4. He further directed attention to the want of books for the use of the patients, and suggested tiiat the institu-

tion,either with or without subscribing, might have the use nf the Athensßuin library.

The matter was referred to the Visiting Committee, also the question of supplying a kitchen range. Mr Piilla'a offer to supply fifty ornamental and fruit trees to be planted in the hospital grounds, was accepted with thanks, as also the offer of Mr Simpson to supply seeds and flowers. The Visiting Committee were empowered to incur an expenditure not exceeding £5, in order to avail themselves of the donations.

It was proposed by Mr Powell, seconded by Mr Humphrey, and carried : " That, having in view the small amount of subscriptions received on behalf of the hospital, and the reduced sum consequently available for curreut expenses for the year, a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Graves, Roche, Powell, Fisher, and Munsou be appointed to ascertain if any, and what, reduction may be effected in the working expenses, and to report generally upon the financial condition of the hospital at the n »xt monthly meeting." The following tenders for supplies for the year were accepted:—Bread, Felix West; meat, Suisted Brothers ; milk, Henry Wilson; washing, Ellen Tottenham; coals aud firewood, W. Courtney; wines and spirits, John Corr; groceries, Bailie and Humphrey ; burials, J. A. Carr. Messrs Rowlands, Simpson, and Struthers were appointed a visiting committee for August.
