A TIMELY WARNING.
The present financial embarrassment of Otago is said to have in no small degree been brought about by its reunion with Southland. This haa saddled Otago with a legacy of debt, which bleeds the province to the tune of £16,000 a year. In the ensuiu» session ot the Assembly, the question of uniting a portion of the CouHty of Westland to Nelson will come up for discussion, and it will behove the Nelson members to see that this province does not pay too dearly for its increase of territory. We are not averse to the increase, provided it be not over, costly, but the matter will require to be looked at closely.
