ONE BLACK SHEEP IN ALL CHARLESTON.

We put in Geordie, wha wad Bell His mither to advance himseL He's wetl awa frae legislation, For Geordie canna resist temptation. Dam Watty.

(To the Editor of the Westport Times an Charleston Argus),

Sir, —I enclose a few lines in reference to au incident that took place here on Thursday last on the occasion of the sale of a claim by auction. The mining property was sold by order of the Curator of Intestate Estates and realised the sum of £52, being knocked down to Mr Donne, the Curator, The circumstances in connection with the matter are that the sale was limited to two bidders—Mr Donne and Mrs Hunter whose relationship to the deceased created for her and her child, ren a wide spread sympathy, and it was generally known that this poor woman was desirous of possessing the property, in order to eke out a subsistence for herself and family. The attendance at the sale was large, yet not one among the numerous bystanders but was impressed with the poor woman's position. She appealed to all not to deprive her and children of bread; this met with a ready response in the breast of every, one present with, I regret to say, one exception—one, who, entering into competition with her, ran the property to £52, at which price the poor woman was compelled to stop, and the property was knocked down to Mr George Donne, M.P.C. I do not desire to make any further comment either upon the un. fortunate circumstances and sorrowful tale of the one or the greedy covetousness of the other, but I hope that you will give this matter publicity as it is one that should not be silently passed over. —Yours, &c, Zozimus. »
