Murray are the successful tenderers for the transmission of the San Francisco mails from Nelson to West Coast p.irts, Mr C. M. Ware, a former resident in Duncdin, -who was a passenger by the Nebraska, gives the following as his opinion, founded on personal experience of Mr Webb's steamers: —"These boats are very fine and roomy, but the provisioning part is indifferently conducted, and will not suit Johu Bull unless improved on. They are not to be com pared to Hall's line in this respect." Tho following letter, written in San Francisco, is also from "Mr Ware :—" May 6,1871. —Sir, — The Nebraska, the second vessel of Mr W. 11. Webb's line, leaves here to-day, for Sydney, via Auckland. The present subsidy will never pay these boats, and unless Australia or Congress come in and subsidise them, the line is bound to give in." The "Semaphore," of Marseilles, reports the loss, lately, near St Malo, of the French transport Sevre. Out of 48 passengers, mostly -wounded soldiers, and 113 seamen, who were ou board, only 55 persons were saved. ME. H. H. HALL'S CALIFOENIAN LINE. TIHS TABLE.
