CHARLESTON.

(from ottb own correspondent.) On Wednesday last Messrs Dwan and Co. sold the ketch Brothers and Sister, as she lay stranded in Constant Bay, Charleston. Mr Charles Craddock purchased the vessel for the sum of nine pounds. The rigging compasses, (fee, were sold separately at moderate prices. A miner named Thomas O'Hagan, working at Brighton, went, on Monday last, back in the country to look after some water, taking nothing with him but a little bread, a candle, and some matches. On Wednesday fears were entertained for his safety, and two parties went in search of him. They traced him into some very dangerous country, full of precipices and gorges, and to the side of a creek that had not heretofore been known. Here they lost all traces of him, and were obliged to return. On Thursday nearly all the men in the district organised themselves and went in search of him, but up to a late hour had not met with any success. Great fears are entertained for his safety, and as he is thoroughly well known in Brighton the greatest excite, ment prevails.

Six of the Irish political prisoners arrived in Christchurch recently, but are only allowed to remain in the colony for a few days. The names are John Hood, John Edward Kelly, L. F. Bains, John O'Neill, Golding, and Thomas Fennell. A public meeting has been called in Charleston for this evening, in order to raise subscriptions to defray their expenses.
