At the sittings of the Supreme Court, held at Auckland, Captain William Percival, charged with wilful and corrupt perjury between himself and the Manager of the bank of New Zealand, has been convicted and sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment with hard labour. A subscription has been raised to convey his wife and family to England. A child of eight months, named Margaret M'Carthy, met her death by drowning on the 7th inst, having fallen into a tub of water. Upwards of 85,000 ounces of gold have been received from the Thames goldfields during the last two months. A boatman, was drowned in a heavy gale at the Thames on Wednesday last, and several Auckland merchants had a narrow escape, being picked up by the steamer Lady Bowen after several hours' exposure in an open boat. The Caledonian gold mine is still turning out well, and another divi. dend of £l2 per scrip was declared to-day; also one of £2 in the Thames Company. A fire broke out at two o'clock this morning at Eeichelit's fancy warehouse, Princes-street. The fire got a fair hold of the shop, and the City Buffet caught before the Fire Brigade got to work. The fire was immediately subdued on the application of water. Eeicheldt is insured in the New Zealand Company for £ISOO. Stock and premises totally destroyed. Also the City Buffet, which was insured. The loss to Allen the proprietor is £9OO. Beichcldt is in custody, on suspicion of arson, the evidence against him being strong. He admits setting fire to the premises, but says it was purely accidental. MELBOURNE COMMERCIAL. Bluff, June 14. The s.s. Gothenburg arrived at the Bluff early this morning, having left Melbourne on the Bfch. Breadstuffs in Australia are firmer since the arrival of the Californian mail. Flour, for trade requirements, is quoted at £l6 10s to £l6 15s. New Zealand wheat, medium samples, has changed hands at 6 s 2d; Port M'Donnell do., 6s lid to 7s. The demand for New Zealand oats is improving at 3s 7d. Sugars are quoted at £37 10s for greyish crystals, and for yellow counter, £34 10s to £35. Hennessy's case brandy, 295.
