Auckland, June G. Via Wanganui, June 9. A sad accident occurred here on Saturday evening. Mr Geo Eitchie, of the firm of Beveridge and Eitchie, solicitors, was thrown from his horse, death ensuing instantaneously. An inquest was hold yesterday, resulting in a verdict of accidental death. The funeral took place to-day, and was attended by an immense number of people. On Monday last, a child belonging to Mr Grove, M.P.C., was killed on the Thames Tramway. The schooner Industry was wrecked at Waikato Heads yesterday. The ship Alexandria, 114 days out, from London, arrived here on Saturday. The master reports having encountered fearful gales this side of the equator, during which a heavy soa broke on board, doing immense damage, and killing J. Moore, chief steward, and Edward Day, an apprentice. The James Patterson arrived from Sydney yesterday. Her master reports the total wreck of the steamer Auckland between Sydney and Melbourne. The passengers and mails were transhipped to the Macedon, and conveyed to Sydney. The accounts from the Thames goldfields continue favorable. 30,000 ozs of gold have been received from them during the past fortnight. The Caledonian Company is looking as well as ever, and shares are steady at £176. Thames are quoted at £36; Cures, 25s ; Junction, 455; Alburuia, £l4. The latter claim has every appearance of turning out a secon Caledonian, large quantities of very rich specimens are being taken out. At Coromandel the Tokatea and other claims are also proving very rich. Arrived : Joliba, from Lyttelton. Napier, June 9. In the E. M. Court to-day William Hawker was convicted of having in his possession, at Whorepanga, an illicit still, and was sentenced to sis months' hard labour. During the hearing of the case, counsel for the prisoner requested that the still, which had been deposited in the Customs Shed, might be produced. The Customs' officer, on searching, found the shed broken open and the still stolen The body of the still has been since found in the harbour, but the other parts aro missing.
