BRIGHTON.

A branch of the Hibernian Society, under the style of No. 25, Brighton branch, was opened at Brighton on Friday, May "sth, by Bros, Pigott (President), and Deehan (Secretary), as delegates from the No. 8, Charleston branch. Dr Henry, Surgeon to the Charleston branch, attended for examination of intending candidates for admis&ion. Nineteen candidates were proposed and duly initiated as full benefit members, after which the lodge was opened in due form. The following officers were elected:— President, E. J. Maguire ; supporters, Timothy Foley, John Sheedy. V «ce I resident Thorcas O'Hagan; supporters Botiiard Bodgers, John Thornton Secretary, Daniel M'Cfrmick; warden, Michael Malony; guardian,

John Curtain; treasurer, Thomas Nevin. After the business of the meeting had concluded the delegates were made the guests of the newly formed branch at a banquet, to which upwards of 100 ladies and gentlemen sat down. Full justice was done to the many good things supplied in Host Slattery's best style. The toasts on the occasion were few and appropriate—that of " Our Native Land" being ably responded to by Mr D. M'Cormick, win e truthful description of the love Irishmen bear the land of their birth, elicited much applause. "The Hibernian Society," coupled with the names of the Charleston delegates, was toasted in flowing bumpers, and responded to by Messrs Pigott and Deehan. The " Ladies," having been duly honoured and Host Slattery having provided music, an adjournment took place to the ballroom, which soon presented a lively appearance. Dancing was kept up till broad day light, and on breaking up, all seemed pleased with the night's amusement.
