I is intended during the present to introduce the Prussian system iam campaigns into the British army rder to instruct both officers and in the work which they might exin actual warfare. Sir Charles eley and other officers who have essed the mode in which the Pruss conduct these operations in time eace have communicated their ex3nce to the army in general, and the lorities at the War-office are strongly ressed with the desirability of rting a similar plan. The idea is to de the force available, and this will 'race as many men as can be got itlier at one place, into two armies, er separate command, and, after lishing each officer with a rough plan he intended operations, and a map he country over which it is proposed operate, to let them work out the «ls according to their individual gment, umpires being appointed to icise every movement, and prevent absurd situations which occasionally M in sham fights at Woolwich and ra-shot. These, manoeuvres will b ably be deferred until after the jest, when the damage done to the I over which the troops may have pass will be only nominal and the npensntion small, but open tracts of "toy will be made available, as far practicable, and already Dartmoor ithemoorlands of Scotland are spoken suitable for the purpose. The PC campaigns will probably extend I several days, which will effectually the efficiency of tho commissariat,
military train, and other services with which each division will be furnished, in as complete a form as if going on actual service. "Book" on the French Derby.— "Were I a betting man (says the " Besieged Resident" of the " Daily News") I would bet twenty to one against the Bonapartes; seven to one against a Republic lasting for two years ; and I would take five to one against the Comte de Paris becoming King of the French; and three to one against the Due d'Aumale being elected President of the Republic This would be my " book" upon the political French Derby.
