The steamer Wellington has been disposed, of by auction to the local company owning the Tnranaki, for £7OOO. She originally cost i' 24,000, and is almost a new vessel. The Ahuriri was purchased by Vlr John Martin, owner of the I'hoebe, for £3650. The " Brisbane Courier" of Saturday has the following : "A report to the following effect, by Captain Evan's of the Star Queen, which arrived here on Monday Inst, has been handed to us :—At daylight on the 16fch inst., when the ship was off Fort Stephens, a vessel was steering as if to cut. her off. All sail was made, and the Star Queen- rapidly gained ground. Smoke was then seen rising from the pursuing vessel, which was soon afterwards discovered to.be u steamer. The wind falling light, the steamer came up rapidly, and she approached so closely that her ports, about six on each side, were very plainly visible, as wire also a large number of armed men on deck. Showed the French ensign. The breeze freshening the Star Queen increased the distance between them, and ran up the English ensign, when the pursuer hauled her wind and stood away."
