Among the French at Versailles it is etiquette not to be merry, to sing or play the piano, or to go out on horseback. At Tours, also, the rule has been that nobody snould be allowed to amuse himself during the war. At Bordeaux, however, three or four theatres are open, and also an Alcazar, and some cafe concerts. The great theatre is devoted to public meetings ; but at the Theatre Franoais, M. Ponsard's "Charlotte Corday " has been revived with considerable success.
