Dr. Featherston missed the steamer Alhamhra on Saturday. He sailed in the Lord Ashley yesterday, and proceeds home in the Nevada. The Provincial Government has received intimation of an Act to be introduced by the Assembly, to amend and consolidate the Goldfields Regulations. A bill will be introduced during the ensuing session. A Mining Conference meets in May. Professor Hearn, of Melbourne, expresses an opinion that the Governor's pou er of granting pardon is limited to after conviction.
The laadowners of Clut'aa offer fitteen mileß of land, free of charge, provided the Government commence the line of railway at both ends simultaneously. There was no offer, at auction, for the Harbour Company's steamers.
April 21. Another fatal case of scarlet fever is reported froai Switzer's. John Johnston, the proprietor of the Waikava Saw-mills has been drowned while rafting timber. A school-master, named Shepherd, at the Teviot, died suddenly of apoplexy. Flour is firm at £l2 ; wheat, 4s 6d to 4s 9d, and scarce ; the market is well supplied with oats at 2s 3d to 2s Gd.
