THE ROSE OF DEADMAN'S CREEK.

Ethereal charms—in lover's arms Are oft by poets sung-, To Cupid's darts, and broken hearts, Melodious lutes are strung. But in my dreams, all other themes An entrance vainly seek, I only trace an angel's face, The Rose of Deadman's Creek. I've met betimes, in southern climes, A face of beauty rare, And dark black eyes, 'noath azure skies, I thought beyond compare, But gentle breeze, 'noath shady trees Ne'er kissed fond maiden's cheek Or face divine, as fair as thine, Sweet Hose of Deadman's Creek. BrMit as the morn—could robes adorn, Or give Perfection aid— Can modest grace, in maiden's face, By art be purer made— Could loving mind, and nature kind, Unholy accents speak— Or tinge of pin e'er dwell within I 'pheliose of Deadman's Creek ? Seraglios grand, on orient strand, Veil many a form divine, But Sultans bold, with coin untold, Would worship at Ihy shrine, Could I aspire, with heart on fire. One loving glance to seek, While oceans lave, I'd bo thy slave, Sweet Rose of Deadman's Creek. Siberian cold, or deserts old, With thee I'd gladly share, Chili, Japan, or Ilindostan, If but thy form were there ; In Moorish land, on Af tie's sand, Or Egmont's highest peak, Content I'd bo, if blest with thee, Sweet Rose of Deadman's Creek.
